Harela is a Hindu festival celebrated in Uttarakhand and some regions of Himachal Pradesh. The name “Harela” is used in some places of Garhwal. The festival is celebrated as Mol-Sankranti, or Rai-Sangran.
“Harela” means ‘day of green.’ People around Uttarakhand especially in the Kumaon region associate this festival with greenery.
In Garhwal and Himachal Pradesh,people take their village deities in an open place, singing and dancing in front of the idol. Saplings are also planted on this day.
Students of the junior wing of Manava Bharati India International School,Dehradun celebrated the Harela festival on 15th July 2022 in the school premises. Students thereby spread awareness about the importance of plants .
The celebrations comprised of making beautiful drawings and planting saplings. Students of classes from PG to 5 actively participated with full enthusiasm.
